March 13, 2014:

This one’s for my most conscientious friends, the supportive grumblers who delicately reminded me that I missed sending a regularly scheduled newsletter two weeks ago. All apologies, and thanks for paying attention.

The thing is, I’ve been busy. I’ve written 35 pages of semi-memoir, freelanced a feature piece about female entrepreneurs, and engaged in an ongoing editing project about using drones in journalism for the Tow Center for Digital Journalism out of Columbia University.

Also, you’ve got to cut me a break, because I’m pretty tied up with myself and my own life-sustaining addictions. Drinking gallons of Diet Coke, binge-watching HBO, taking too many naps, sitting in the dark, worshipping the idea of success, checking your Facebook status—and the list goes on.

All that being said, I’m using this newsletter as a crowd-sourcing exercise. Take a break from that reality T.V. episode you’re watching and write me back with a quick paragraph about the modern compulsions that distract and fuel you. If you do, you might find a homage to them (and you) in a section of my writing.

As always, thanks for being out there, friends. It means everything.
